Celebrities express their shock towards Park Tae Hwan’s initial disqualification in the Olympics
Celebrities have expressed their shock upon hearing news of Gold Medalist Park Tae Hwan‘s disqualification from the men’s 400m freestyle competition in the Olympic games.
On July 28th, Brown Eyed Girls‘ Narsha wrote on her Twitter, “This verdict is total nonsense. You have to be fast to win but [Park Tae Hwan] was disqualified for being too fast? I’m angry“.
Actress Kim Gyuri also expressed her anger on Twitter and wrote, “I don’t there was a problem when he started [the race] but he was disqualified…” while fellow actress Ahn Sung Young wrote, “What? Park Tae Hwan is disqualified? This doesn’t make any sense“.
Comedian Nam Hee Suk also expressed disbelief as he wrote, “Park Tae Hwan disqualified? What…this….huh? Park Tae Hwan disqualified?” while actor Kim Su Ro wrote, “I am in mental shock because of Park Tae Hwan’s disqualification“.
Park Tae Hwan was initially disqualified from the men’s 400m freestyle race in the 2012 London Olympics for a false start. Park Tae Hwan came in 1st in his heat with a time of 3 minutes and 47.68 seconds, but was notified he was disqualified at the end of the race. Park Tae Hwan looked embarrassed as he stated in an interview after the race, “I don’t know why I was disqualified“. However, South Korea appealed the decision and he has been reinstated into the competition.
Update: Park Tae Hwan won the Silver Medal in this race with a time of 3:42.06 behind China’s Sun Yang who sent a new Olympic Record with a time of 3:40.14.
